It was a great pleasure
working with the lyrics of one of Canada’s best jazz/folk performers, the legendary Joni Mitchell. Her songs remain
as current and valid, today, as when they were first penned. She represents one of the most original voices of her generation.
For anyone who doesn’t recognize the song title “Big Yellow Taxi,” this is the “They paved paradise/And
put up a parking lot” song. LOL Recently, I heard one of the younger up-and-coming bands do a cover version of this
tune. The lyrics speak to current generations as much as they did to their parents or grandparents. Link to original lyrics:

“Dealing With Cuddy”
Cuddy told House twice
She wants him to stop
Dodging his clinic duty
and seeks
To get him to do the job
that he’s not
Cuddy always seems to
know
When House is trying to
wriggle out of a tight spot
Her rules are set in stone
So House dispenses medical
advice
And calls his patients
“morons” a lot
It takes all three
Of House’s Ducklings
just to run him
And they think up whopping
lies
About patients just to
get House to see them
Cameron always seems to
show
She’ll be warm and
fuzzy to House even when he’s not
When he’s home
He plays the piano like
paradise
And drinks a Scotch, neat,
shot
Hey lawyer lawyer
Don’t bother him
with malpractice worries, now
The cases he grapples
Are the toughest nuts
of the medical community
Geez!
Although he’s cranky
he seems to show
Deep down inside he cares
a lot
Just leave him alone
He doesn’t have
to act nice
To give people without
hope a second shot
Until late at night
House studies cases
And goes over patients’
exams
And sometimes he
Gets a visit from Wilson
the ‘marrying man’
Even when he’s feeling
low
A puzzling medical condition
fires up his interest a lot
Hasn’t he shown
Even when his leg feels
like it’s in a vice
He’s critically
ill patients’ best shot
