Since House mentioned
Pink Floyd in the episode “The Socratic Method,” it’s given me an excuse to delve into the brilliant, disturbing
and melancholy lyrics of a musician and songwriter who knows what it’s like to spend quality time inside a lovely institution
for mental hygiene. *cough* His songs provide an unflinching look inside the mind of someone who has battled with some rather
large and toothy personal demons. If there’s “a thin line between love and hate,” then the walls *really*
start to break down between genius and madness. It’s probably no accident that, statistically, artists are several times
more likely than the average population to struggle with mental health issues.
The link I’ll provide
for the Pink Floyd song I’m parodying actually includes all the lyrics to PF’s famous (and fabulous) concept album
“The Wall” which the band performed in its entirety as the Berlin Wall was coming down. Whenever I listen to this
album, I think about how the Berlin Wall fell and hope, someday, all such walls, borders and barriers that humanity has erected
will come tumbling down. Here’s the link for “Another Brick in the Wall:” http://pinkfloyd.net/lyrics/index.php?album=6&PHPSESSID=82dcc57d5c4bad287310ad4301287b64 For any younger readers who are asking,
“Right, what’s the Berlin Wall?” LOL here’s one of many links available: http://www.dailysoft.com/berlinwall/history/index.htm
(Note: I’ve combined
parts 2 and 3 of “Another Brick in the Wall” for this parody.)

“His Inner Defences
Are Starting To Fall”
Doctor House needs his
medication
To keep his pain under
control
He suffered “muscle
death” from a thigh infarction
And spends a lot of time
alone
Hey! People! Leave Doctor
House alone
His intellect’s
not small but he doesn’t make house calls
All in all he’d
rather not see patients at all
Doctor Cuddy feels stress
and frustration
Because Gregory House
won’t be controlled
His snarks yaw like chasms
in the exam room
Because Cuddy won’t
leave House alone
Hey! Cuddy! Just leave
House alone
He’s been dragging
his feet for six years that’s all
And “misdialing”
consultation calls
House doesn’t trust
humanity
And sometimes loses his
cool around Cuddy
But he knows he has to
be on the ball
And can’t leave
the Ducklings with nothing to do at all
No! That wouldn’t
be a wise idea at all
His inner defences are
starting to fall
As good friends break
down his walls
